Design and Technology

Design and Technology Overview

At Wenlock CE Academy, the design and technology curriculum develops children's skills in designing, planning, making, and evaluating through a sequenced approach.

Projects focus on areas like structures, mechanisms, cooking and nutrition, or textiles, with connections to science, such as integrating electronic systems. For example, Year 5's cooking project Eat the Seasons is paired with the geography project Sow, Grow and Farm. Students gradually learn a range of techniques, including building and cooking, while engaging in the iterative design process—designing, making, testing, and evaluating products to meet specific criteria, all while practising hygiene and safety.

The design and technology curriculum fully covers all national curriculum requirements. It carefully examines the sequencing of concepts, vocabulary, and connections with other subjects to ensure a cohesive learning experience.
